- Missing Teeth Replacements
Our dentists uses dental implants to replace one or more missing teeth for a smile that looks and feels completely natural. Different than a conventional dental bridge or dentures, dental implants are today’s preferred treatment.
Why Dental Implants Make Sense
Dental implants work different than a dental bridge or dentures. Unlike dental implants, a dental bridge or dentures cannot replace the action of real teeth, because they sit on the gums and never touch the jaw. Without jaw stimulation, the bone deteriorates. Without the support of a strong jaw, facial muscles sag. Lack of bone and muscle support makes it even more difficult to keep appliances in place.
The traditional dental bridge and dentures:
Detachable partial denture: To replace several missing teeth, this appliance features a flexible base with artificial teeth fastened by plastic and metal. Patients keep it in place by clipping it to the gum line.
Fixed partial denture/Three Unit Bridge: This dental bridge fills in the space left by one or more teeth but requires two existing teeth, abutments, for support. Because the side surfaces of the two teeth must be grinded to make room for the dental bridge, the teeth lose their defense against decay and daily stress.
Dental Implants with our Vancouver dentists
Backed by science and consistent results, our dentists recommend dental implants for most tooth replacements. Dental implants are strong, dependable, resist decay and function the way real teeth do. Dental implants are placed in the jaw bone permanently. They do not slip and will continuously stimulate the bone. For patients who already have previous dental work, our dentists can use dental implants to improve the support and function of a dental bridge or dentures.
- Single dental implants. Wherever a tooth is missing, our dentists fill it with a single dental implant. This procedure works best for patients who have jaw bone to support the implants, but even patients with bone loss can get single dental implants after a bone graft.
- Implant supported dental bridge. A dental bridge works well when supported by two dental implants instead of the natural teeth. Once the dental implants are installed, they serve as the anchors (abutments). The patient uses a temporary set of teeth, called a flipper, until the implants are completely fused to the jaw (six months) and the permanent dental bridge is placed.
